Privacy Policy

MUTRL helps you stay close to the people who matter. We built it to be private by default — your relationships are yours. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, where it lives, and the choices you have.

What we collect

• Contacts you import. If you grant contacts access, MUTRL imports the people in your phone's address book who have a phone number — their name and number, and (when available) their photo and birthday — so you can start keeping in touch right away. These imported contacts are stored on your device and synced to your private account (see below). You can delete any contact, or your whole account, at any time. You can also skip importing and add people one at a time instead.
• Your content. The relationship notes, journal entries, interactions, and reminders you create in the app.
• Account information. Your email address and the authentication data needed to sign you in (handled by our auth provider, Supabase).
• Diagnostics. Limited crash and error reports (via Sentry) so we can fix problems. Personal text is redacted before it's sent.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data.
• We don't share your data for advertising.
• We don't use your content to build advertising profiles.
• Your in-app usage analytics stay on your device — they are stored locally and are not transmitted to us or any third-party analytics service.

Where your data lives

Your information is stored on your device in a local database, and your sign-in credentials are kept in your device's encrypted system keystore (the iOS Keychain). When you're signed in, your content also syncs to your private space in our cloud database (Supabase), isolated to your account by row-level security so no other user can reach it.

AI features

Optional features — including relationship search, contact-memory extraction, suggested message drafts, and weekly summaries — use artificial intelligence. Before any of these features can send data, MUTRL asks you to accept an AI data sharing disclosure in Settings. If you accept and enable a feature, only the specific context that request needs (such as a question, relevant contact details and notes, or recent journal text) is sent through our server to OpenAI to generate the result.

• OpenAI does not use API content to train its models by default.
• OpenAI may retain abuse-monitoring logs containing request content for up to 30 days by default, subject to its current API data controls and legal obligations.
• AI features are optional. You can turn either feature group off or withdraw AI data sharing consent at any time in Settings. After withdrawal, MUTRL blocks new AI requests unless you consent again.

Permissions we ask for

• Contacts (read-only). So MUTRL can import your phone contacts for you to keep up with. We only read your contacts — we never write to or modify your address book. Granting access is optional; you can add people manually instead.
• Notifications. So we can deliver the reminders you set. These are scheduled locally on your device — we don't operate a remote push system or collect a push token.

Both permissions are optional and can be changed anytime in your device Settings.

Your choices & deleting your data

You can edit or delete any of your content at any time. You can also delete your account from within the app (Settings → Delete Account). Doing so removes your account and your data from our cloud database and wipes the app's data from your device. Routine encrypted backups maintained by our infrastructure providers may retain residual copies for a short period before they expire on their normal cycle.

Your privacy rights

If you're in the EEA or UK (GDPR)

You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Our legal basis for processing is performing the service you've asked for and our legitimate interest in operating and improving MUTRL. To exercise any of these rights, email support@mutrl.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you're in California (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to correct inaccurate information. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. Children

MUTRL is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
